HomeIpe vs. Composite vs. PVC vs. Cedar Which Decking is Best?
Get ready for some real-word decking testing with four common deck boards. In this episode, Risinger tests out IPE, composite, PVC, and cedar. How do they handle spills, scratches, and stains? To find out, Risinger puts them through a series of tests. First, let's look at what each of these materials are. Cedar is a soft wood used all over the country. IPE is a tropical hardwood that's extremely dense (Risinger coats it with oil in this episode). Timber tech is a composite wood that's a mix of both wood and plastic. And ASIC is a cellular PVC product. How exactly are each put to the test? By using real situations that happen to all of us when we're out on the deck. First, Risinger takes ketchup, mustard, hamburgers, and red wine and distributes them onto the board. Then he sprays a generous coating of bugspray and let them sit in the sun. Then, he took a screw and sliced each board. So, which board was the most durable and could withstand the most damage? Watch the video to find out. This video was sponsored by Azek and TimberTown.
