Every Texas contractor has coolers in their truck for drinks and food on a long, hot work day. We join Matt Risinger for this video where he demonstrates how a standard cooler filled with ice and a Yeti cooler compare three hours into an average day. The standard cooler, the ice is mostly melted and the Yeti has all the ice intact and is still going strong. What can we learn from this comparison, and how does it relate to home building? If you consider the standard cooler is just that—standard insulation and average air sealing means a lot warmer air coming in, resulting in faster melting ice. On the high-performance Yeti cooler, it's designed with a thicker, more expensive style, with better insulation and a solid air sealing system with a tight latch on the cover. High-performance homes work the same way. You might need to spend a little more when designing and building an energy-efficient home," but you will have good insulation air sealing that will save you money and be more durable in the long run.
