Wood siding has mainly gone the way of the dinosaur in favor of cement-based siding (think Hardie Plank), but with the right installation wood siding can last for decades or even centuries! In this video, Matt Risinger takes us to a 1935 house. The home's walls have been re-sheathed. Watch as he wraps the entire house with Dupont's Stucco Wrap (what he considers a best-practice method for weatherizing a house), along with a 1-inch rigid foam on the outside. Important to note always make sure your drainage plane is correct and pay attention the trim details. In this case, Risinger needed to thicken-up the trim. Then he replaced the original siding (after stripping the original paint). Make sure to watch until the end when Risinger returns in a follow up shot, after the home's exterior is complete and painted. The best thing about the rain screen he uses is that the house will perform like it did in 1935, but up to today's standards.
