HomeWood Garage Door - How to Clad your Metal Door with Wood
A standard metal door clad with wood looks fantastic! In this video, Matt Risinger reveals the process of creating a beautiful, cedar-clad garage door. The first thing you need to do is choose correct door as your base. For this project, Risinger used a non-insulated, hollow, 24-gage commercial style overhead door. That door serves as the perfect base to mount the Cedar. Risinger recommends lightweight wood, like Cedar or Redwood. As you can see, they screw and glue the wood to the door. The vinyl insulation back should be added later. Also, notice the 10-degree back bevel on the Cedar boards. This allows the door to look seamless when it's down. Finally, all you need is a good lift for your beautiful, wood garage door. In this video," Risinger suggests a chain drive motor for heavy doors like this one. Check out the video for the final product.
