This 10-year-old home in Westlake endured over $1,000 in energy bills over the course of a summer. The new owners called Matt Risinger in to conduct an efficiency upgrade. The 5,700-sq-ft house has three AC units and 12 tons of cooling capacity. They're upgrading the attic insulation from pink fiberglass to spray foam to create a conditioned attic and they're also changing out the HVAC equipment to higher efficiency units. Risinger shows off the spray equipment that his team will use on this project before going over the issues that were derived from common building practices of 10 to 15 years ago. One issue is that the house was insulated on the flat section with fiberglass insulation after the house was built. There are huge gaps and voids in the insulation, so conditioned air comes through to the attic. Changing out the HVAC equipment will close these gaps. Watch the video to see how else the team is making this home more energy efficient.
