In previous projects, Jake has used the ceiling drywall as the air barrier. While doable, it poses challenges when it comes to common penetrations for things like smoke alarms and light fixtures. In the spirit of trying new things to constantly improve, Jake has opted for a new approach here. The roof trusses have an integrated plenum, and with the help of products like ZIP Sheathing and Siga's Mairex, this plenum becomes the air barrier. Within the recessed plenum, the HVAC can be tucked away, and the rooms below can be framed and drywalled in a more traditional fashion.
