HomeSpray Foam & How to meet 2014 Insulation Codes
The International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) is a building code that was created by the International Code Council in 2000. It is a model code adopted by many states and municipal governments in the United States for the establishment of minimum design and construction requirements for energy efficiency. The new 2012 IECC codes are in effect, and in this video, Matt Risinger shows us how to use spray foam to meet and exceed code requirements for the Southern U.S. He'll also show us the differences between a traditionally insulated attic and a conditioned attic. Specifically, when it comes to spray foam, things changed in Austin, TX in 2012. Any region considered a Climate Zone 3, or higher, required R-20 or R-13 insulation and R-5 Rigid Foam Exterior. According to Risinger," spray foam goes well beyond meeting requirements because it can get into tight spaces that cannot typically be insulated easily.
