Home Smart Design For Hot/Humid Climates - Architect Peter L Pfeiffer, FAIA Part 1 of 2
Matt Risinger introduces us to Peter Pfeiffer, an expert in architecture and building science, and gives us the opportunity to learn about designing a home for hot and humid climates. But first - what's green building, anyway? According to the Environmental Protection Agency, green building is the practice of creating structures and implementing processes that are environmentally responsible and resource-efficient throughout a building's lifecycle—from design to construction, operation and maintenance, to renovation and deconstruction. Pfeiffer talks about the energy pyramid and drills down the basics of green building design, considerations like tankless water heaters and solar collectors. Once you learn about power efficiency within your home, then and only then, Pfieffer says, should you try to create your own power. Learn about using nature to save money and be more efficient when designing a house in a hot and humid climate. Pressing forward, Pfeiffer sums everything up with the final steps of this part one video. Pfeiffer talks about layout, stories, ceiling height, roof pitch and color and exterior and interior colors. He really goes into details. Dive in and see for yourself.
