A pocket door is a sliding door that disappears when it's fully open into a compartment in the adjacent wall. In this video, we'll join Matt Risinger as he takes on a home with a pocket door. There are many things to consider when designing for this door variety. For example, no outlets. Pocket doors are a great solution for space and provide an openness aspect. Three of the most important things to consider choosing the right hardware, finding the right frame and a good supplier to supply it to your jobsite, and choosing the right carpenter. Remember that pocket doors are going to be installed during the initial stages of the home build, so you want to be sure to order good hardware. (You want ball bearings.) You also want a good frame. Depending where your millwork is coming from, you might order your frame from your lumber supplier. Most importantly," you want to make sure you've recruited a finish carpenter to install these doors. This is the type of design detail that needs to be done right the first time.
