HomeOutdoor Fireplace + Designing with Outdoor Living - Jim LaRu
In this video, James D. LaRue and Matt Risinger talk about how to design outdoor living spaces for a modern infill home. In a home remodel that James was the architect on, he and his team crafted an outdoor living space with a wood-burning fireplace using the same brick that was used on the house. From a design perspective, the fireplace anchors the building and holds up the roof. Recycled wood was used for the ceilings, which was both a sustainable and cost-effective move. Columns were designed with furnished concrete block.Risinger also explains why outdoor fireplaces are the way to go for Austin houses. In a warm climate, there would not be many opportunities use and enjoy and indoor fireplace. By moving it outside, the client will benefit from it for both energy reasons and simply because they would use it much more often. The covered place is also ideal for grilling!
