In this episode of The Build Show, Matt Risinger talks HVAC on the Passive House job he's visited before. Passive House is aimed at building a durable, healthy house that lasts. Risinger talks with the owner of the house, also the architect (Trey Farmer, AIA, of Forge Craft Architecture). They'll discuss the costs associated with this system if you want to incorporate it into your next build. The key is to keep occupants thermally comfortable, as well as provide healthy air quality.
The Mitsubishi system here has a ramp-down capacity, where it senses when temperature is actually achieved as opposed to just cooling to a certain temp on the thermostat. As a result, it doesn't need to blow massive amounts of air unless there's a large gathering or heavy cooking, such as on a holiday. There's also an Ultra Aire dehumidifier which can remove up to 70 pints in 24 hours. Filtration is an important aspect of a passive house, as it's not just about efficiency, but also about healthy air. This home offers HEPA-grade filtration.
