HomeInsulation Strategy on a New High Performance Central Austin Home
In this video blog, Matt Risinger discusses the insulation strategy on a new,2,200-square foot home. With spray foam insulation, they're getting around 40% more efficient than regulations require, which will deliver a comfortable, energy-efficient home. Cavities, wiring, pipes and other gaps are difficult to seal with fiberglass or blanket insulation, but with an average of 3.5 inches of spray foam on external walls, gaps are fully encapsulated, making a perfect seal. On the hottest wall that faces the sun, the architects have designed a wall with fewer windows and spray foam was increased to around 5.5 inches. This allows heating and cooling to be properly sized for the house, increasing efficiency.
