In some cases, a home is pretty straightforward in design so that a consistent insulation can be used—regardless of whether it's a new build or a remodel. In this video, Matt Risinger, master builder, takes us to a renovation and begins to discuss the varieties of insulation and, why this house in particular posed some challenges. It has been common in the past, for example, to use batting insulation around skylights. However, there is a tendency for that batting to slip…leaving a vulnerable area without any type of insulation. In this build, there were three air-conditioning units in the attic, skylights, and areas where the ceiling was low. Risinger walks us through the solutions that were used in a house with such a variety of insulation needs.
