Home HVAC Tech Talk - VRF what is it?

Variable Refrigerant Flow Technology (VRF), used in HVAC systems, is not a new concept. However, it's seldom used. In this video, Matt Risinger gives us a primer on VRF, what is it, and why you should be using it! Most American air conditioners used outside are either a single or a two-stage unit. It's all on or all off, or with the two-stage unit, it will run at 2/3 speed or full speed. The Variable Refrigerant Flow technology by Mitsubishi is able to modulate the compressor's output all the way from 15% to 100%. It responds to how much capacity is needed. An impressive factor is how very quiet the system is. While my voice is measured by my sound meter at 70 dB, the VRF unit measures at approximately 60 dB. It's certainly worth considering for its flexibility and its low-noise features.
