There is a certain look and feel to historic homes and often the use of more modern building materials when renovating, detracts from their historic nature. In this video, Matt Risinger discusses a new line of siding products available from James Hardie and shows how they can be used to enrich the level of detail on historic homes. The cement-based siding is substantially a bit thicker than traditional siding which, according to Risinger, allows corners to be mitered. Because there is substantially less movement over time with the thicker siding, mitered corners won't open up. Hardie Artisan is a great product if the mitered corner look goes to the home's design, without the issues associated with wood siding. The thickness of the siding on the home and the available trim for use around windows gives a depth to the siding that casts a deep shadow, enhancing its historic look. Look at the video to see the beauty of the Hardie Artisan siding and decide if it's a product that might look exactly right on your home.
