I’m often found saying “It’s not Rocket Science, it’s Building Science”. When there is living space over a garage, we need to consider how we insulate the floor frame, and how we approach an air tightness strategy. Although the garage is inside the building, it is not usually a conditioned space and therefore considered “Outside” of the thermal envelope. In this video we treat the floor assembly above the garage as an assembly between the inside, and the outside. I go onsite to a current project under construction by my good friends at Shoreline Builders and take a look at this specific detail.
