Adding air sealing at the framing stage is important. As codes change, a tighter house build is mandatory. Indoor air can't be controlled if air can leak in without being controlled. Air coming in from the outside brought water, mold spores, pollen and bugs into our older houses. In this video, Matt Risinger, master builder, discusses sill seal and starts by showing us where the process starts. Beginning at the 2 x 6 bottom plate, Risinger shows us a gasket that will provide good air sealing, especially as compared to foam. The gasket is applied first. Then, where the framing meets the foundation on the outside with tape or a fluid product. You also want to air seal on the inside of the same area with tape or fluid caulk. Don't skip this step—it's important for the longevity of your house.
