This episode of The BUILD Show highlights a new home construction project Matt Risinger is working on with a slab on grade foundation (no basement, no crawl space), which is common in Texas building and other temperate climates, but he discusses the difference between this type and pier and beam foundation, the pros and cons and which one might be best for your new home build.
Without a basement, you don’t have to do basement waterproofing, there are no issues with pests, water or animals going under your house. With the pier and beam foundation, you can have a crawl space (conditioned or unconditioned). This is an easier house to insulate, and they’re easier to fix, repair, upgrade and remodel (or even to move) than a slab on grade house. A slab is also a harder floor surface, which can be significant on the feet and standing for hours. There are benefits to both types, but understanding the pros and cons of each help you make an informed choice for your build. Join Matt on this interesting comparison video.
