Every time that something comes through the shell of your home, whether it's a pipe or an electrical box, it's critical that it is flashed properly. In this video, master builder, Matt Risinger discusses the weatherproofing of an electrical box on the exterior of a house. Using Dupont StraightFlash, Risinger shows us a simple process to apply the tape. Start at the bottom of whatever you're flashing with the first piece of tape and integrate your way up to the top, which is the last piece.Another effective exterior flashing is the QuickFlash that fits right into a slash you make into the Tyvek at the top (see video). Push the flashing through so that the top is under the Tyvek and then tape. Water will run straight down and not go in. At that point, put StraightFlash on the bottom and then the sides. Risinger recommends, for best rest, stay with the same manufacturer for all of your flashing needs.
