There are many variations of concrete slabs. The most common type of foundation in the south is slab on grade. Slab-on-grade is a cost-effective alternative to homes that start with a basement. Replacing concrete with different building materials gives builders an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions both during construction and home operation. In this video, Matt Risinger discusses a steel reinforced slab, his personal preference. It's important to make sure moisture doesn't affect the slab at the beginning of the process, and that it's protected. He uses a fine wire mesh to prevent cracks in the concrete, termite mesh, and black plastic to avoid evaporation.
