HomeConcrete Slab Foundation - Process & Best Practices
There are many variations of concrete slabs. The most common type of foundation in the south is slab on grade. Slab-on-grade is a cost-effective alternative to homes that start with a basement. Replacing concrete with different building materials gives builders an opportunity to reduce greenhouse gas emissions both during construction and home operation. In this video, Matt Risinger discusses a steel reinforced slab, his personal preference. It's important to make sure moisture doesn't affect the slab at the beginning of the process, and that it's protected. He uses a fine wire mesh to prevent cracks in the concrete, termite mesh, and black plastic to avoid evaporation. Watch the full video which showcases the beginning of the project and the steps required to get a perfect concrete slab end-product.
