Home Episode 8: The Air Barrier & Drywall
On this episode Build Show Build, Steve and Jake discuss the air barrier system on this house. He'll run through the red line test on the studio shot—the beauty of the red line test is that at some point, we have to make that a reality on the actual site. Looking at the structure, we have a ZIP R9 outside the house, which steve considers the primary air barrier. It comes down the outside of the wall, and a plate catches the bottom. The reason for this is the rigid insulation. We need to keep rodents and critters outside. So that barrier needs to come down and connect to the plate. Steve jumps inside, showing us where the team will blow the underside with insulation but then finish it again with the same R9 panel using a ZIP liquid flash system to connect it to the plate. The air barrier continuity will be in place. Steve dives into the details that make this continuous, and a special guest joins him to talk air sealing—of course, Matt!
