Home Austin Spray Foam Code Compliance Changes 5 2010
In this video, John Umphress of Austin Energy's Green Building Program and Matt Risinger discuss the changes to code interpretation regarding spray foamed attic spaces within City of Austin Jurisdiction. More and more building companies are using spray foam installation. There are specific requirements when it comes to what needs to be done when foam is installed into different areas, and there has been some confusion about how the product should be used and how jobs were being inspected. The goal of the changes in code was to get some consistency so builders, spray foam contractors, and everyone involved know what the rules are. Here we are mainly talking about conditioned attic spaces. Most attics in Austin have some HVAC equipment. Under this code interpretation, there will be attics that are accessible only to reach mechanicals or attics that have that plus some storage space. To make sure attics with storage comply with code, foam needs to be separated from storage space with half-inch drywall. For a brief crash course on everything else you need to know about the spray foam code compliance," watch this video.
