Matt Risinger and Jim LaRue discuss how they worked within the City Of Austin McMansion Ordinance, which limits the size of the home you can build on your lot, to create a stunning modern designed infill house in Central Austin. One challenge they had to overcome while working on this lot was creating a space to put vehicles while staying within the ordinance. They designed a carport with a traditional garage door that faces the street for security and the feeling of a true garage. Besides a roof, the rest of the space is open! Not only did the carport provide a roofed space for parking or even an outdoor party or barbecue, the open air also adds a layer of safety in case of a chemical spill. The side carport helped them retain the target square footage, while also providing an Indoor Air Quality boost to their home.
