Home AIA Presentation Green Building Strategy That Is Not Being Used
Matt Risinger is on a panel presentation for the AIA Austin Committee On The Environment Meeting titled Green Building Lessons Learned. Joining Risinger on the panel was Architect Peter Pfeiffer with Barley & Pfeiffer Architects and John Umphress of Austin Energy Green Building Program. Watch as Risinger discusses humidity in houses, particularly homes in high-humidity climates like Austin, TX. In Risinger's house, they often turn on the AC to deal with high humidity, as do many other families. But we don't need a lower temperature in the house we need a lower humidity. A good solution until you're ready to do something more permanent is to incorporate an LG dehumidifier. This works well for Risinger's 2,000-square-foot home as a temporary fix, but he really recommends the Ultra-Aire XT 150 for a long-term fix. This whole-house dehumidifier goes through 150 pounds of water removal a day using only 6.9 amps, which is substantially more efficient than the AC.
