GARAGE PORTAL Design.......The Garage PORTAL is simply the Garage Door Opening. Typically, these openings account for a very large portion of the wall with the garage doors. To compound the problem, the openings go all the way to the ground, eliminating any connection of the wall to the foundation below. These portals, laden with these complications, pose a real problem to the shear forces the wall is asked to combat.
