Home 9 Simple Keys to Success in the Building Business

My Buddy Joel sent this to me and I loved it!  I’m adding a few things to the original text to make it my own.

8 Keys to Success in Business (including Building)

  1. Start the day early. Get things done without interruption. Respond to emails.  Do your to-do list, beginning with what you need to accomplish the first two or three hours of the day. Throw in some exercise.
  2. Time block the day. Set aside time for research, contacting clients and prospects, cold calling for new leads, meetings and administrative tasks. Block a half hour each morning for emails, a half hour each afternoon for social media. Use time in the car for some (hands-free!) phone calls.
  3. But keep the schedule flexible. Stay accessible.  Be ready to respond to clients/trades at your job sites and make a trip to another job.
  4. Build relationships. Know your clients’ needs and dreams. Communicate constantly. Become their friend. Remember birthdays and anniversaries. Stay in touch after the house is done.
  5. Pick up the phone. Nothing beats real physical connection. Let people hear the sound of your voice.
  6. Work with the best. Only use sub-contractors who are the best in their fields.
  7. Stay healthy. Eat well, get some exercise and the sleep you need.  (I’ve been doing CrossFit for several months and I feel great!)
  8. Unwind with your family. Don’t bring work home. Take regular family vacations.  Put your phone down and be present at home.  Respond to late texts in the morning.
  9. BUILD Better. Be a lifelong student.  Take time weekly to learn more about your craft.  Make every house you BUILD better than the last and you’ll be the top builder in your area before long.

I thought this list was a terrific reminder.  Hopefully you will too!

Best,

Matt Risinger
