Sheetrock is an important consideration. In this video, Matt Risinger, master builder takes us to a home recently insulated with spray foam insulation and the house passed the insulation inspection. Now, it's time for sheetrock and there are considerations when choosing between half inch rock and five eights inch rock. Most homes have half inch sheetrock. However, approximately 10 years ago, we started using 5/8 sheetrock on the ceiling. We find that since it is a much stiffer product, there are less chances of that sheetrock bowing between joists or ceiling joists, especially if they're on 24-inch centers. Risinger is also a big fan of using 5/8 sheetrock everywhere in the house, saying that when they frame the house, they are using finger-jointed lumber, which is much straighter. The 5/8" rock smooths over any small inconsistencies between the studs and yields a straighter and better finish-quality job. It also adds durability and absorbs sound better between rooms. It's a $300 upgrade but it can make a big difference in quality
