We all want our decks to be built to last, especially since it tends to be such a tedious process. Matt Risinger provides 5 important tips to make you deck last at least a generation or two. Turns out it really doesn't matter what kind of deck board you use if the framing and foundation below that isn't right then the deck is going to fail prematurely. Water is the number one deck killer, so wood quality and perseveration will be a huge factor. He warns "if it can't dry it's going to die", so the wood you use will determine how dry your deck will get. Risinger uses YellaWood, where the wood is infused with copper to prevent rot and decay. Risinger warns that spacing the ledger board is important to allow for drying inside and out, because there isn't moisture being trapped between the boards and concrete.
