Home 3 Tips for Ipe Decks - Risinger Goes Rogue
If you're thinking about adding or replacing a deck, here are three tips from master builder, Matt Risinger, for building an IPE deck. In this video, Risinger takes us to a deck construction with an amazing view and where IPE decking material is used.Although IPE is expensive, it is extremely long-lasting, even in the Texas summer sun, as this one will be. The original color of the wood will fade in time, unless annually maintained. That original color, however, will still look good when faded and still be in use in a couple of decades.Using screws to install the IPE will help if you need to back the screws out for any reason, rather than nailing them down. Risinger walks us through the use of a membrane over the pressure-treated joists to prevent water penetration. The joists as a result will last as long as the decking. One of the most important tips involves keeping water from penetrating the home via the door and sill through the use of a sill pan. Risinger also shows us the benefit of using a plastic/wood composite on the door jamb to prevent rotting, something you can request from your door provider. A deck is a highly used feature on a home. By using IPE and some extra tips and tricks from Risinger," that deck can last a very long time.
