In this episode of the Build Show, Matt Risinger visits a nearly 100-year-old Bungalow being re-built to Passive House standards, with amazing air quality and insulation—more than double code insulation, but without breaking the bank. This passive home is being built by Trey Farmer, AIA, who is not only the architect, but the owner of the house. Risinger and Farmer walk us through all the details of this super-insulated home (e.g., showing the poly-iso board bonded to zip insulation) that make this a really tight, well-designed home. Of course, once you get a very tight home, you get a great envelope, but people inside also need to breathe, so there's constant intake of fresh air with controlled heat and humidity, and stale air is constantly flowing out.
